Decibel Ensemble invite a new generation of artists to resonate the space. W.A. presenter Tura New Music’s brief is wide-ranging, with regular new music concerts in Perth, festivals in the city and the regions, regional tours and residencies, encompassing contemporary classical music, improvised music, sound installations, electronica and the hybrids and emerging forms of the new musical world. Decibel is one of the newer members of the Tura family, and very much in tune with Tura’s impulse to pursue collaborations across subcultural boundaries. This
podcast features two new works from Decibel’s ‘Sounding A Room’ concert at the W.A. Museum, their contribution to the recent Tura 25th birthday celebrations. The works are:
1. From Traffic Rises by Mace Francis. 2. Forever Alone Together Or by Chris Cobilis
Decibel are joined for this concert by Mace Francis on electric guitar, Josh Hogan on electronics and percussion. Plus, a guest horn section for Mace’s piece consisting of Andrew Gioia, trumpet; Sean Little, tenor saxophone; and Ricki Malet, 1/4-tone flugelhorn.
The music was recorded by ABC Classic FM producer Karl Akers and sound engineer Gavin Fernie at the Hackett Hall Gallery, Western Australian Museum.
