Decibel are participating in the Totally Huge New Music Festival in Perth.

PICA 19 September Camera Obscura with guest artist, Marina Rosenfeld (NYC), 8pm

Friday 23 September, performances as part of  New Music Up Late with Julian Day, recording at the ABC, East Perth, 6pm.

Saturday 24th September at Midland Railway workshops,  performing Marina Rosenfeld’s ‘Cannons’. Not to be missed : 4 steel cannons fitted with sub woofer speakers!!

Concert 3: Camera Obscura
Monday 19 September, 2011, 8pm. As part of the Totally Huge New Music Festival.

Most peoples current music is experience in association with constructed image. Through television, movies, music video, games, or even live performance the listening experience is often combined with visual action. This program looks at music that uses image as integral in its conception, construction and performance – from projected scores and installation to images generated by sound.

East Coast Appearances May 2011

Decibel will feature in two concerts on the east coast of Australia in May 2011.

This includes an appearance at the PEKING SPRING festival, in Canberra on May 14th, and another at THE SYDNEY CONSERVATORIUM on May 15th. The program will feature works by Cat Hope, Lindsay Vickery, Alan Lamb’s Infinity Machine and Ever Present, by Alvin Lucier.

The program is supported by the New Music Network Mini Series and the WA Department of Culture and the Arts.

Decibel wins National Award

Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) and the Australian Music Centre (AMC) have announced the winners of the inaugural ART Music Awards, the only national event in Australia to acknowledge the  achievement and creative successes of Australian performers and composers in the genres of contemporary art music, jazz and experimental music.

The inaugural Award for Excellence in Experimental Music was awarded to Cat Hope for Decibel’s 2009/2010 Annual Program.

A Voice from the Dark Space

The first in a series of 3 concerts in the main space at PICA, A Voice from the Dark Space brings a musical experience that studies the dark, the quiet and the mysterious landscape.

Decibel are directed by Cat Hope (also flutes and electronics) and are unique in their combination of new compositions,  arrangements, sound art and improvisation. Members Lindsay Vickery (clarinets/saxophones/prgoramming), Stuart James (keyboard/percussion/programming), Tristan Parr (cello) and Malcom Riddoch (electroacoustics/networking) are some of Perth’s most renown new music performers. A special guest for this program is mezzo-soprano Caitlin Cassidy.

The program includes new works by ensemble members Lindsay Vickery and Cat Hope, Perth composers Adam Trainer and Tim Beahan as well as works by Cornelius Cardew, Julian Day and Ennio Morricone. A new instrument created for Decibel by sound artist Alan Lamb is also featured.
